The first generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio was launched back in the year 2014 and became one of the most affordable car debuting Maruti’s automatic (AT) transmission in its segment. The previous version of the Celerio is soon to be replaced by its second generation that has been spied testing several times. Let’s have a look about what can we expect from the new Maruti Suzuki Celerio.
Based on Maruti’s Heartect platform
The new Maruti Suzuki Celerio is expected to be based on the Maruti’s Heartect lightweight platform similar to the models like the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso and the Wagon-R. The new Celerio is expected to be bigger in size along with a longer wheelbase and a wider cabin.
Expected to get an option of petrol engine
Another change expected in the new Celerio is to get an option of a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 83bhp along with the existing BS VI 1.0-litre 3-cylinder K10 unit. In terms of transmission, both the engines are to be paired with a 5-speed manual (MT) gearbox as standard and a 5-speed automatic (AT) gearbox as an option.
Will get Maruti’s latest design language
The second-gen Celerio will follow the latest Maruti’s design language along with meeting the pedestrian norms. The new Celerio is expected to feature a slim grille, reclined rear windshield, new headlamps and taillights along with newly designed alloy wheels, with lower variants getting steel covers or wheel covers.
Will get more features than the current version
On the inside, the new Celerio is expected to get new and updated features in addition to the existing features in the current version. A few interior changes includes a new dashboard design, a new steering wheel (similar to that in the Wagon-R), Maruti’s SmartPlay Studio infotainment system, center console surounded by air con vents on either side and air controls below and much more.
Expected Price and Rivals
The upcoming second generation hatchback is expected to be priced between INR 4.5 lakh to INR 6.5 lakh (Ex-showroom) and will rival the likes of the Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago in its segment.
