Volkswagen Taigun likely to be launched in the coming months

Volkswagen India has recently announced that its upcoming mid-size SUV, the Taigun will commence its production from August 18, 2021 and is expected to launch in the coming months.

Volkswagen Passenger Cars unveiled the production-spec of the Taigun at the Auto Expo 2020 and will be introduced under the brand’s SUVW strategy in the Indian market followed by the launch of Volkswagen Tiguan facelift later this year. The upcoming mid-size SUV is based on the similar MQB AO IN platform which can also be seen in its cousin, the Skoda Kushaq.

As for the exteriors, the Taigun features square-shaped LED headlights with LED DRLs, 17-inch alloy wheels, silver roof rails, an electric sunroof, LED taillights, roof mounted spoiler and front and rear skid plates. On the inside, the mid-size SUV gets a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, front ventilated seats, automatic climate control, wireless charging, fully digital instrument cluster, cruise control, Type-C USB ports and much more.

Similar to the Skoda Kushaq, the Taigun will also offer 2(Two) engine options – a 1.0-litre TSI unit producing 114bhp and 178Nm of torque and a 1.5-litre TSI unit generating 148bhp against a peak torque of 250Nm. The engine will be mated either to a 6-speed manual (MT) or a 6-speed automatic (AT) or a 7-speed DSG transmission where the latter gearbox is mated exclusively with the 1.5-litre engine.

Once the Volkswagen Taigun is introduced in the Indian market then it will rival the likes of the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and the Skoda Kushaq.
