Mahindra Marazzo, KUV100 to be discontinued

One of the top car manufacturers, Mahindra might just have decided to discontinue 2 (Two) of its models, Mahindra XUV100, the micro-SUV and Mahindra Marazzo from the MPV segment. This is part of a bigger move by Mahindra in order to focus on more lucrative areas of the market, especially the SUV segment by rolling out its lesser performing models.

One of the main reasons for the discontinuation of both the models is the low sales numbers.

Why Mahindra Marazzo?

  • The Mahindra Marazzo is one the most-refined cars that Mahindra has ever produced.
  • Irrespective of getting an upgraded 1.5-litre diesel engine along with updated features, this MPV didn’t do well in the market.
  • Only 711 units of the Marazzo has been sold in the month of January.
  • On the other hand, while comparing the sale numbers of its competitors, Toyota sold 19,300 units of the Innova Crysta and Maruti sold 37,286 units of the Ertiga during the same period.
  • As the model is being discontinued, the Marazzo will not get an update anymore as it was expected to receive a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine from the brand’s latest mStallion range that was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020.

Why Mahindra KUV100?

  • There are 2 (Two) main reasons for Mahindra to discontinue the Mahindra KUV100 – one being fewer sale numbers and the other being Mahindra to launch formally the eKUV in early 2022.
  • Speaking as of now, only 21 units of the Mahindra KUV100 have been sold as compared to its competitors, Ford which sold 3,564 of the freestyle variant while Maruti sold 16,075 units of the Ignis.
  • The KUV100 turned out to be a failed attempt for Mahindra in order to stand in the hatchback segment of the Indian car market.
  • Mahindra is planning to launch the KUV in an all-electric form.
  • The new eKUV will come with a claimed real-world range of 147km.
  • This all-electric KUV100 will also come suited with a 15.9kWh producing roughly 55hp of power.
