Skoda Kushaq starts production in India

The Czech car manufacturer, Skoda has recently announced the start of production of its upcoming subcompact crossover SUV, Skoda Kushaq, in India with the first car being assembled in its Pune plant. Skoda India is prepping for its launch in July 2021. It’s very interesting to know that the name Kushaq is derived from the Sanskrit word “Kushak” which means a king or an emperor.

Based on the similar platform of that of the Volkswagen Taigun, MQB A0-IN, Skoda Kushaq is the first model to be produced under the 2.0 project by Skoda India.

The crossover SUV gets a chrome grille by Skoda along with LED DRLs on the front and a set of fog lamps positioned below the main headlamps. At the rear, the Kushaq gets a roof-mounted spoiler, wraparound L-shaped taillights. It also gets bumpers with integrated skid plates, roof rails and roof spoilers.

Inside the cabin, the car is equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, ventilated front seats, climate control, ambient lighting and more. The lower variants are expected to get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

The upcoming crossover SUV, Skoda Kushaq, will offer 2 (Two) engine options – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine mated either to a 6-speed manual (MT) transmission or a 6-speed automatic (AT) gearbox producing 113bhp and 175Nm and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine paired either with a 6-speed manual (MT) gearbox or a 7-speed DCT generating 148bhp against 250Nm of torque.
